Why Montessori
It is a revolutionary method of observing and supporting the natural development of children. Montessori educational practice helps children develop creativity, problem solving, social, and time-management skills, to contribute to society and the environment, and to become fulfilled person in their particular time and place on Earth. The basis of Montessori practice in the classroom is respected individual choice of research and work, and uninterrupted concentration rather than group lessons led by an adult…
The development of the whole child
Comes from the refinement of all of the senses and makes it possible in a stimulating, warm, happy atmosphere, where a child can work and develop at his own pace. The Montessori classroom is prepared to help children accomplish their goals in their own manner, while they are working.
Your child has a passionate joy of learning and work. Gradually the children reveal qualities such as intense concentration and surprising attention span, precise movement, sense of order, self discipline and respect for others, peacefulness and kindness.
Montessori Academy wants to encourage and stimulate the development of these traits in a relaxed and positive learning environment, filled with Montessori materials.
In the first years of life children are absorbing impressions, taking in all the elements of the world around them.
The Exercises of Practical Life are classified under the headings of Preliminary Exercises, Care of Environment, Care of the Person, Grace and Courtesy, Movement. There are materials for each of these areas, adopted to the children`s size, interest and capabilities.
The Sensorial Materials are mathematically graded, they isolete one quality only and they allow for individual work and for repetition. This makes it possible for the children to abstract the concept made concrete in each piece of material, to name it, and then to apply it to the environment.
The Language Materials let the children write and read spontaneously after working with very simple materials; the Sandpaper Letters- which permit them to learn the shape and sound of the letters; the Moveable Alphabet, which allow them to arrange these letters to form words; and the Metal Insets, which made it possible for the children to control a writing instrument.
The Math Materials give the children a sensorial experience of the abstraction that is mathematics, allowing them to store concepts so that when the time comes to deal exclusively in abstract terms, the understanding is already there.
Culture
Art and Music
Being outdoors has a positive impact on children’s sense of well-being and helps all aspects of children’s development. It offers opportunities for doing things in different ways and on different scales than when indoors. It gives children first-hand contact with weather, seasons and the natural world. Outdoor environments offer children freedom to explore, use their senses, and be physically active and exuberant.
From the child’s point of view the distinctions between all these subjects are unimportant and indeed. Enrichment of vocabulary comes with all activities.
These are basic targets of Montessori materials which may look simple, but they are precisely designed, based on years of observation and study.
